If it is not broken, don't fix it. - 10/05/2006
If it is broken, fix it.

Webring, please listen to your members especially those who are now deleting their rings and removing navagation codes from their websites.

What we are saying is that you have fixed something that was not broken at all. The way Webring was before this new policy came into effect was a perfect record, not scratched or broken at all. The people loved you and respected Webring.

Now the people are using their fingers and removing their webring codes from their websites and looking to other ring sites to host their rings now. People who once made Webring so great and popular is now turning their backs on you.

When October 15th comes, the members who loved you and made you great would have turned their backs to you and gone elsewhere, looking for ring sites that would allow them to have more than two rings up, leaving here with two rings up and running on a Webring that had broken their rings down to a precious couple.

As my mother said, if it is not broken, don't fix it. What Webring had was a great thing, but now with this new policy that is soon to be enforced, it is now broken. The members will either use their fingers or their CC, but most of the members will use their fingers and walk out the door. Please grandfather the older members before this takes effect, that way you will not lose so many members or if you don't delete all the deleted rings making them vanish into cyberspace like the previous ring owners wanted.

Thank you for many years of hits.

I must agree with your comment about if it is not broken, don't fix it. Webring was not broken before this new change in policy happened but now it is. They need to fix this before anymore serious damage can happen. But will the former ringowners return to Webring? Maybe and maybe not. We did all return when Yahoo gave Webring back to it's original owners. Maybe this change of policy is a temporary thing like the Yahoo ownership was?

I can only hope it is a temporary thing.

The trouble is, Webring WAS/IS broken. It really is about money. How many times have we read that their costs have gone up? The problem is, MOST people did NOT donate. And, when volunteering doesn't work, you have to have a draft. That's all this is. INstead of people donating a small amount, they are forced to charge.
